“My late mother used to say to me, ‘Lerato, wena o Rata Vaslapa, which basically means ‘You love yourself’ in English, and that is exactly what inspired my clothing brand.”

These are Lerato ‘Moscovitch’ Ramathibela, the founder of Rata Vaslapa clothing brand’s words. No doubt, Ramathibela is definitely living up to his brand, clean, classy and stylish describes his appearance.

He described his brand, Rata Vaslapa as a local South African brand that is opening and enlightening brands in the high-end fashion world. Growing, up, Ramathibela says his peers used to ask for fashion advice from him and that is how he realised he has a good sense of style.



“No lies, I love myself, I love looking clean and that’s exactly what the brand is about, more than anything, Rata Vaslap is a more of a lifestyle. When my mother passed on, I wanted something to dedicate to her, so Rata Vaslapa came to mind, she was also a very clean, stylish and a beautiful woman,” said Ramathibela.

“The brand can definitely be described as the Loui Vuitton in local “African” aspect and it’s about creating real products with and through our culture. I want people to look clean and classy. in my clothing brand, my customers need to live up to the logo, in other words, I am promoting cleanliness,” he added.

Based in Diepkloof, Ramathibela says that his brand was also inspired by some of the prominent big clothing brands. Asked about his long-term goal, Moscovitch said that he is plan is to have his own factory, which will serve as a platform to create jobs for kasi people.

“Unlike other clothing brands, this one does not use ordinary designs and just put a logo, Nope! The brand has unique clothing items and I will soon be launching shoe collection,” said Ramathibela.

His brand caters for everyone, big or small, slim or thick, males and females, in fact, your whole wardrobe can be filled by this clothing brand and you’ll still look super stylish. He says that he gets a lot of support from some of the prominent people in South Africa, such as Masechaba Ndlovu, Mo Flava, Kofi Ofori-Boateng, Vaal Nation, Crazy Black Dudes, Aubrey Tshabalala, Isaac Pitso Dikwa and many more.
