With barely a full month into the new year, an alarming trend is rearing its head in the Greater Eldorado Park, and no-one is spared.
A home which provides shelter, food and is regarded as a place of safety for orphans and children affected by or infected with HIV/Aids was the latest victim of the crime which does not seem to be letting up in the area.
The Villa of Hope is a registered non-profit organisation in neighbouring Nancefield which focuses on providing care to children who have been orphaned or require alternative care as a result of abuse, neglect, abandonment and other circumstances.
They are registered with the Department of Social Development as a child and youth care centre and caregivers at the centre were left reeling after the centre was burgled on January 30. According to a representative, Zorina Wentworth, the burglars tied up the security staff before ransacking the centre.

She said, “The items that were stolen are everyday items that we need, so this incident really made a dent in our pockets. All of our back-up stock and daily groceries were taken.”
“There is so much loss that simply cannot be recovered and I can confirm that our security staff were tied up while the burglars vandalised and stole our belongings.”
Wentworth said that she could not list the stolen items because she was afraid that doing so would make the centre vulnerable to more break-ins.
She appealed to the community for donations and said, “For now, my only request is for donations of everyday groceries, toiletries, stationery and appliances.”
