Restoring dignity to young girls in Dube Village

Sibusiso Masina said sanitary towels are a major challenge in schools.

It is true but sad that young girls use toilet papers, newspapers, and cut old clothes these are some of unhygienic which are used by many girls who don’t have sanitary pads and it puts them at high risk of infection.

One Love Foundation in partnership with Heal The World donated 300 sanitary pads to Daliwonga Secondary School in Dube Village with the aim of assisting young girls who don’t have pads.

The sanitary pads campaign is to instil confidence and bring back dignity to young girls. Sanitary pads are a basic and essential need to disadvantage youth who sometimes miss school when it’s a time of the month. These are natural circumstances and such they should not be left unattended.

Founder of One Love Foundation, Sibusiso Masina said sanitary towels are a major challenge in schools. “I have seen young girls who don’t go to school because they don’t have sanitary pads. He mentioned that he started by helping two girls and then he wanted to help me.

“I believe that if condoms are free and sanitary pads should be free also. Every girl should have access to them because I don’t see the need for pads being sold. Masina added that girls didn’t choose menstruation but it is happening to them and they are there as One Love Foundation to bring back hope and dignity.”

One of the learners Thandi Chere said, “One Love Foundation has given them the opportunity to be free and they will now be able to remain at school with confidence because being in need of sanitary pads makes some girls miss school and they feel ashamed or embarrassed.”
