WATCH: ANC intensifies election operation

The ruling party is out in full force to remind the citizenry about the gains of democracy brought by its administration over the past 25 years.

The ruling party is out in full force to remind the citizenry about the gains of democracy brought by its administration over the past 25 years.

They delegated Gauteng Legislature member, MPL Daisy Mashego from the Zone Seven Parliamentary Constituency Office (PCO) in Dobsonville to lead the campaign on the ground.

Mashego said, “The Zone Seven PCO is one of the most important and largest ANC zones in Gauteng. Meadowlands, Dobsonville, Tshepisong, Bramfischerville, Mzimhlophe, Orlando East and Orlando West all fall under the zone.

“In these upcoming elections, we are targeting the youth, domestic workers, gardeners and senior citizens. We want them to come out in their masses to vote.”

She said their primary concern is that some people have relocated from one province to the other. Mashego said such people who have not registered their new addresses with the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) may end up qualifying to vote only once for the national elections but not be eligible to vote in the provincial elections.

ANC Zone Seven deputy secretary, Phumzile Shange said the branch has already kick-started their door-to-door campaign.

“We also assisted people without identity documents to get their ID books. We took them to the Department of Home Affairs to complete all the necessities to get their identity documents before election time arrives.

“On the ground, we are also taking people who previously didn’t vote to the IEC offices for their election registrations,” said Shange.

She said they are giving priority to people who qualify for special voting (senior citizens, people with disabilities, and people who are heavily pregnant) by helping them with their registration process.

“Our members are on the ground helping to hang up elections posters throughout Zone Seven. We will be visiting high schools, colleges, taxi ranks and shopping malls to remind the youth about the strides taken by the ANC in changing our people’s lives for the better,” said Shange.

According to Shange, it is the ANC administration which played a vital role in the creation of townships like Lufhereng, Slovoville, Bramfischerville, Lehae and Snake Park (Doornkop) and she added that the party was ready to continue working.

Shange added that it is the very same ANC which made it possible for people to have malls and shopping complexes in their townships.
