Discovering footballing talent at premier football tournament

Even more exciting for the football team, two of their players have been selected to play for Kaizer Chiefs.

The 2018 edition of the Discovery Walter Sisulu Soccer Challenge entertained soccer fans during the festive season at the Nike Football Training Centre. The soccer challenge is known as a refinement ground where new talent is discovered.

After being crowned the champions of the tournament in 2015, Pimville’s Premier Impala FC has never made it to even semi-finals, however 2018, the ‘hero’, their head coach, Thabang Moloi came back to save them, along with the owner of the team, TaLuks, their managing director, Ntate Moloi and the team manager, Sipho Shabangu, they fought to get the team to the top and came out 3rd in the Discovery Walter Sisulu Challenge.

The winning team.

“Coach Thabang Moloi is one of the best coaches in Pimville. We were very pleased with the team’s performance especially by the player’s ability to implement and execute plans and instructions and the positive attitude which is palpable in the locker room. We played 10 games and only conceded 3 goals throughout the tournament,” said Shabangu, team manager.

“It was both a relief and a pleasure to see how the technical team’s plan had transferred from a theory on a blackboard to on-field performances,” he added.

Relebohile ‘Madzanya’ Moketose was crowned the leading goal scorer of the tournament and according to Shabangu, he is considered one of the deadliest strikers they have as a football team. He is also described as a player who has the best technique on and off the ball, a player who maintains his composure and has the ability to observe the goalkeeper’s position and when they shoot on target, they all know it’s a goal.

“As a team we need to improve offensively, what football is teaching us is that you either win or you learn the lesson. We have learned the lesson, we need to close the fragility in defense and we need to improve attacking wise. This is the formula we are going to use in the SAB league,” Shabangu concluded.
