Hard work ahead for Corrie High this year

"Great things never come from comfort zones, it always comes from hard work."

Coronationville Secondary School had 111 Grade 12 learners for 2018, this number was more than the previous year where they had a 96.7% pass rate with the class of 2017. The class of 2018 may have dropped by 2.4% but the school management and teachers are all proud of their 94.3% pass rate.

Principal Floyd Billings and councillor Khana Amod, who is the chairman of the School Governing Body (SGB) shared their excitement as their school comes second to Saint Barnabas with their 100 % matric pass rate.

“Our motivation was teamwork and we all had a vision that we all worked towards. I always said to them that God would never change the position of the people unless they changed that that is within themselves, and I believe that the learners changed that that was within themselves from an education perspective.”

“I’m very proud of our learners even though there was a 2% drop we had more quality passes last year than the previous year. These learners took on the challenge with courage and perseverance and that’s why they did so well,” said Amod.

According to the SGB, the learners attended SIPP classes and had tuition with certain teachers every day.

He continued, “We always motivated the learners and treated them with respect. We told them to aim for the best because they can become anything they want to be in this life. Matric is not enough so we encourage that they go to tertiary education. We are still classified under township schools and we did so well with our limited tools. I want to say thank you to the principal, the teachers, the SGB members, the grandparents and parents who supported their children through their schooling life.”

Amod ended off with this quote: “Great things never come from comfort zones, it always comes from hard work.”

Billings said, “I would just like to congratulate the Class of 2018. I want to thank the SGB members and all the teachers. I just want to wish the learners well and I hope they make their parents and the community proud. We want them not to forget Coronationville and we want them to come back to visit.”

“For the Class of 2019, I want to say that for the past two years we’ve had a pass rate in the 90% and we not going to accept any drop now, we only see 100%. I also want to congratulate R.W Fick Secondary School for that big jump too. If a school is doing well it’s the community that’s advancing. The Class of 2018 from the school passed with 20 admissions to Bachelor Degrees, 42 Diplomas and 22 Higher Certificates.

Principal Billings concluded: “We encourage all Grade 12 learners to attend all intervention programmes which is offered by the Education Department because it really does make a difference.”
