‘Tis the season for giving

"I wish everyone a blessed 2019, let us work together at improving our community," Finley Watson.

Community leader Finley Watson and his mother, Hazel believe that the true meaning of Christmas has been lost over the years and the mother and son duo have taken it upon themselves to remind the Eldorado Park community about the importance of the religious occasion.

Finley said, “We have noticed that many children have lost or forgotten the true meaning of Christmas. It is up to us as parents to remind them how important the birth of Jesus Christ is.”

Finley Watson, with the help of his mother, hosted a Carols by Candlelight ceremony on December 23 last year.

He said, “We have always had love for children and we believe that they will remember events like this for the rest of their lives.

“The event was not only about educating them about Christmas but about showing them the importance of standing together as a community.

“The festive season is all about giving and about spending time with those closest to you. We believe that with events like this, our children will be able to learn the importance of getting along with one another.”

Finley said the children’s favourite carols were the traditional Jingle Bells, Happy Birthday Jesus, Silent Night and We wish you a Merry Christmas.

“You could see their faces light up whilst they were singing, it was magical. We started our Christmas on a positive note,” he said.

“We are always so pleased and overwhelmed with the support we receive from our community. We can only hope that next Christmas our Carols by Candlelight will be bigger and better.”

“I wish everyone a blessed 2019, let us work together at improving our community,” he added. The event started at 7 pm and over 100 people attended.
