Looters run amok on N12 after truck overturns near Southgate Shopping Mall
The SAPS provincial spekesperson, lieutenant Kay Makhubela has warned of heavy delays along the road following the accident.
A truck overturned on the N12 next to Southgate Shopping Mall this afternoon, losing its load. The scene quickly turned into a free-for-all as looters appeared from all directions and helped themselves to the goods.
It has not been confirmed what cargo the truck was carrying, or which trucking company it belongs to, but emergency services are on the scene.
The cause of the accident has not been confirmed, but the South African Police Service’s provincial spokesperson, lieutenant Kay Makhubela has advised that police are en route to the scene to conduct a cleanup operation and warned that motorists travelling along the route should expect heavy delays.
Information remains sketchy at this point and we are awaiting an update from police regarding the cause of the accident and whether any lives were lost.
