Foundation strives to impact, not to impress

'Education is the pillar of the community'.

The Lesego Tau Education Foundation (LTEF) is back and even more enthusiastic to expand their horizons this year. Through the fruitful partnership with the Department of Education, Johannesburg West District; this year, the foundation will be growing its footprint to cover the greater Soweto and also extending its outreach programmes.

The foundation is operating from their office at the Kopanong Community Centre and over the years, their programmes have continued to inspire the youth to be self-reliant and excel academically.

The foundation founder Lesego Tau said, “Our 2019 year plan will be focusing on the following;

  • Junior Perception Agents (A life skills coaching and school-based mentoring programe),
  • CRUX (An entrepreneurship youth empowerment programme),
  • Stimulate (an intense matric programme which deals with eradicating the social ills that hinder the Grade 12 pupils from acquiring their senior certificate),
  • Leadership Camps (An adventure programme which deals with moving young people from their comfort zones),
  • Moletu Butanedu Arts Group (This is a theatre and contemporary choir youth arts group that will be launched to embrace the artistic nature of young people in the immediate communities),
  • Township Tourism Ambassadors (This will be a partnership between the foundation and the Tourism department to encourage young people to enter the tourism sector and to take advantage of current opportunities),
  • LTEF Kitchen Soup (This is an aiding programme that will assist kids with a meal on Wednesdays and Fridays at the Kopanong Community Centre).”

He said their programmes are a motivating factor influencing how students and the community relate to their work. Tau said through the strategic partnership that they will embark on they hope to reach out to more young people in their respective communities.
