GDE to explore other options if community refuses to accept 7 teachers back at Eldos Secondary School

"We had several consultative meetings with all relevant stakeholders and encourage the community to accept all affected teachers to teach, failing which will necessitate that, we explore other options to resolve this matter," GDE.

The Gauteng Department of Education says it is aware and very concerned about the protest action by some parents at the Eldorado Secondary School (Blue School) yesterday morning [January 14].

Some residents are refusing to accept seven teachers back at the school. These teachers were chased out of the school last year. At the time, GDE conducted an investigation to determine the source of the problem but all the teachers were cleared of any wrongdoing.

“This matter was also a subject for the Human Rights Commission, which we are waiting for outcome of same,” the department said in a statement.

The school principal, teachers and the community were asked to welcome the seven teachers back at the school. They were meant to resume their duties on when schools reopened [January 9]. However, they were barred from entering the school premises.

“We had several consultative meetings with all relevant stakeholders and encourage the community to accept all affected teachers to teach, failing which will necessitate that, we explore other options to resolve this matter. Eldorado Park Secondary School obtained 85.4% pass rate in the NSC 2018 examinations.

“Therefore, we urge the principal and SGB to ensure that the teachers are welcomed at the school, and that their work conditions are favourable. We further appeal to the community not to disrupt schooling,” said MEC Panyaza Lesufi.
