WATCH: Link Road was flooded with water following heavy rains

Motorists had to be cautious when using Link Road .

If you have used the Link Road between Albertina Sisulu and Main Reef Road in the recent days, you would know that the half way mark in the road was flooded because of all the rain we’ve been having.

This inconvenienced motorists using the road daily because they have to drive on the sand next to the road, causing more traffic and resulting in many motorists making u-turns.

The area becomes very dangerous to motorists at night because there is not much light on the road thus making it a risk for accidents especially for first time users. The puddle of water can cause damage to car engines and if motorists are traveling at high speed, its possible to even over turn.

The water levels have dropped drastically ever since due to the high-heat from the sun. But there’s a great possibility that when it rains again, the water level might just increase. There are no water drainage systems on the road which increases the chances of flooding there.

Ward Councillor Basil Douglas said, “The City of Johannesburg is aware of the issue and its been years now but nothing has been done. The storm water drainage issue resides with Johannesburg Road Agency (JRA).

“I have reported this just like the Sand Street problem, I’m also a regular casualty, I think the photos I sent them can fill an album. JRA should come to the party, I even have to beg them to cut grass in Avon Street and Main Reef Road.”

We are yet to contact JRA for comment. But will approach JRA for an input in our next update.
