Linnay Jooste receives the African Child of the Year award

''A star on the rise''.

Linnay Jooste, a former Grade Seven learner at Heerengracht Primary School, was recently awarded as the African Child of the year, by the Stacey Fru Foundation. At 11-years-old, Stacey Fru is the youngest author on the continent.

Jooste is currently a presenter at EldosFM and managed to interview Fru, who said that she was inspired by the work Jooste has been doing.

The young learner was nominated for community development as well as her academic skills. Eden Daniels, the principal at Heerengracht Primary School said that Jooste has been a presenter at the local radio station for the past three years.

Daniels said, “She has interviewed many prominent people and leaders like Stacey Fru, Wayne Minnaar from the traffic department, Jacques Blignaut, who plays Vince Meintjies in the popular Afrikaans soapie, 7de Laan, as well as Titus O’Neal from the World of Wrestling Entertainment.”

“Her academic achievements have been phenomenal, she has been the top achiever in her grade since Grade R. She was also recognised for her excellent leadership skills by being elected as the head girl of the primary school. I am extremely proud of this young lady,” she added.

According to Daniels, Jooste has been accepted at Concord College in Randburg, which is a school of excellence, to complete her high school career.

“The fees per month is R 5 000. Textbooks and stationery alone will exceed R 4 000,” said Daniels.

“We are appealing for any help from the community. If there are any angels out there wishing to assist this amazing young lady who has made her parents, school and Eldorado Park extremely proud, please feel free to contact EldosFM or the Heerengracht Primary School principal with any donations.”
