‘Miriam Makeba inspired me to become a musician’

"People always say that it took them ten years to release an album and I never thought that I will be one of those."

Thokozile Zikalala 33-year-old is a musician and her stage name is Faya Uman. Faya Uman is inspired by different artists such as Miriam Makeba, Queen Africa, Boom Shaka, Thandiswa Mazwai, and Black Coffee but actually, the list is endless.

She doesn’t only focus on genre type of music but does all music. Her latest project that she worked on is titled music chairs where you get all kinds of music.

It consists of ten tracks which send a positive message to her fans. She stated that music is revolutionary irrespective what kind of music you are doing. The content is about Kasi people and being self-sufficient.



“As an independent artist, it becomes very difficult when it comes to cash flow because everything comes from your pocket and you end up putting money and in return, you don’t get that money.

Zikalala has been working on an album since 2014 and she stated that this album is very important, people will be blessed and it will be timeless

She added that through her music she wants to uplift the ghetto youth and the next generation by giving them a black positive message.
