‘First Day at Riverlea Primary was the bomb’

School starts for the class of 2019.

There are many mixed emotions as the first day of school commences, some learners kick and scream, others are excited, and others just cry at the thought of going back to school.

We visited Riverlea Primary School this morning to interview the newly Grade 1 learners and to our surprise, there were no kicking and screaming or even crying. However, the parents were still with the learners, and that may be the reason why we didn’t experience that as yet.

Principal Marcelle Elephant explained that they are expecting one hundred and twenty Grade 1 learners today. We interviewed two parents; Jivea Hannie and Maxine Jafta who were bringing their baby girls to school for the first time.

Both parents were just excited and grateful to bring their daughters to school. Hannie explained that it is a new stage in her daughter’s life and that it’s an emotional moment because not many parents have the opportunity to see their children starting school but that she is a very proud and grateful mother.

At the time of the interview, both mothers were still waiting with their daughters to see where their new class is and who their teachers were. Little Skylin Hannie was not so pleased to be at school but walked ahead of her mother to see what is in store for her at the primary school.

Principal Elephant was about to start with the first assembly of the year and then as he explained that all learners will be placed into their new classes, receive their textbooks and start with work immediately.
