2019’s back to school edition brings tears to unlikely parties

Back to school in Protea schools.

The country’s public schools opened today for the new school year and those starting school at Khutala and Protea South primary schools showed no sign of detachment issues as they handled going to big school like champs.

Some parents were, however, overcome with emotion as their little ones ventured into the world for the first time with one father tearing up at Khutala Primary School in Protea North. The principal of Protea South Primary School, Simon Mabasa, says the school is prepared for the new school year and will be looking to improve their mathematics and English marks.

“We will be opening our private library soon to help improve our English marks because if children can’t read then they obviously can’t answer questions. We’re also looking at getting another maths teacher,” he elaborated.

While Mabasa notes that learners in his school face a multitude of socio-economic issues, it is important for parents to play an active role in their children’s education in order to ensure that the three legged support.
