LISTEN: Trio does Emshukantambo proud

“I am proud of myself, but I feel like I could have done much better," Nosiyabonga Njilo.

It may seem as if all learners who do well in Grade 12 are born smart, but that’s not always the case, some learners are just more disciplined and focused, and have developed winning habits.

It also depends on the type of people you surround yourself with. A group of friends from Emshukantambo Secondary School in Pimville made the school proud when they all got admissions to Bachelor’s Degree passes.

According to one of the teachers at the school, Pule Hlahane, the four girls, Gugu Khambule, Anna Sibonda, Nosiyabonga Njilo and the school’s top learner, Mamotumi Thoo who got distinctions in 4 subjects, are always encouraging each other to work hard and the fact that they all passed well, makes the school proud.

Emshukantambo Secondary School Grade 12 Class of 2018 Top learner Mamotumi Thoo.

In Gauteng alone, matric class of 2018 achieved a total of 36,113 distinctions and Thoo achieved distinctions in, English First Additional Language, Life Orientation, Business Studies and Economics and she says that her recipes for the whole year were surrounding herself with people who are determined to work, staying focused and always reminding herself that Success can’t be  guaranteed by only studying the night before an exam.

“Although I was a bit disappointed after getting my results, people seem to be happy for me, I know myself and I think I could have done better. But I am proud of myself, especially because I came out the best learner for the class of 2018,” said Thoo.

“My advice to the class of 2019 Grade 12s is that they should not procrastinate, they should start working from the first day when classes commence, they should focus and have discipline,” she added.
Thoo said that she wants to study towards a degree in Economic Science.

“I am proud of myself, but I feel like I could have done much better. I was alone when I received my results, it was exciting. I applied for Journalism at Wits and the University of Johannesburg (UJ),” said Njilo.

“I am happy with my results – I am over the moon. My parents were very excited, especially my grandmother, I have applied to do Law, hopefully, I get admitted,” said Sibonda.
