Fun awaits at Joburg Zoo

Are you planning on staying in Johannesburg these holidays?

Are you planning on staying in Johannesburg these holidays? Johannesburg City Parks and Zoo has got you covered! The Johannesburg Zoo has a host of activities that are suited for the whole family.

The Zoo will be offering a programme called Animals at Play under the theme ‘Christmas gifts for animals’ which is an enrichment programme for the animals where they will be encouraged to engage in more physical activity by searching for their food in their closures, playing with their respective toys, enjoying summer treats or frozen fruit lollies.

One of the highlight events at the zoo will be family day at the zoo on December 16 where there will be a picnic vibe and a mini-concert on offer. There will be face painting, free massages and a kiddies entertainment area.

“We encourage families who will be staying in Joburg for the festive season, to visit our facilities for various family activities. The Joburg Zoo has something for the whole family. There’s no need to be bored in our City this festive season.

“I would also like to urge residents to take care of public spaces, and to heed the City’s by-laws so that everyone can enjoy themselves,” said Councillor Nonhlanhla Sifumba, Member of the Mayoral Committee for Community Development in the City of Johannesburg.

The Christmas spirit will also be a feature of the zoo’s holiday itinerary. Christmas Comes to the Zoo Trot is a festive gesture of giving where the City of Johannesburg will host over 150 children from various orphanages around the City.

The Zoo trot will include a 5km or 10km walk or run. Entertainment will vary from face painting, jumping castles and there will be a distribution of Christmas presents. Moreover, there will be animal talks and feeding sessions throughout the holiday season.

Those Sowetans who love camping will also have something for them. The Kloofendal Nature Reserve will have a programme that will include a history talk, an afternoon hike, bonfire, edutainment games and a ‘planet walk’.
