Everest Primary School learners, teachers and golf coach Shahiem Ismail attended the first South Africa Golf Open 2018 at the Randpark Golf Course in Randpark Ridge.

When it comes to the popular sporting codes at our schools, one can say that they are soccer and netball. However, there is a school in our community that is changing our ideas on common sporting codes in our local schools.

Everest Primary School learners, teachers and golf coach Shahiem Ismail attended the first South Africa Golf Open 2018 at the Randpark Golf Course in Randpark Ridge.

According to Ismail, the group was participating in a golf coaching clinic with professional players from across the world taking part in the South African Golf Challenge to be played over four days at the Randpark golf course.

“This tournament was previously known as the Johannesburg Open. Everest Primary the only school in its district that has taken part since the inception 2013 as a school doing golf in our Newclare Community,” said Ismail.

Level 1 qualified PGA golf coach Ismail started the golf academy in the community and stated that the challenges faced for golf development are huge and much support is needed for youngsters to become professional golfers.

“Our youngsters are naturally multi-talented and need to be exposed to such coaching courses to enhance their talent. Everest Primary School has shown interest in the sport about five years ago and is still committed to the development programme,” Ismail concluded.
