Clapham brush out Kuyakhanya to win the Coke tournament

After lifting the coveted trophy twice in succession in the last two years, all eyes were on the defending champions.

Clapham High School came out as overall champions of the COPA Coca-Cola National Finals. This comes after the school thrashing Kuyakhanya by an emphatic 8-0 drubbing in the finals of this lucrative competition.

The gutsy Clapham outfit won the competition for the third successive years. After lifting the coveted trophy twice in succession in the last two years, all eyes were on the defending champions, with the question of whether they could do it for the third consecutive time.

To reach the final stages, Clapham finished at the summit of Group A following their wins over Ikekeletso High School, KI Thwala Secondary School and Bela Bela High School. Clapham had to come up against strong title contenders, Glenwood High School in the semi-finals to determine who would advance to the finals.

The evenly balanced affair between the two tournament favourites saw Clapham walking away with a closely contested 1-0 scoreline, thanks to a classic Thando Buthelezi strike that handed them the win.

In the other semi-final, nothing could separate Kuyakhanya and Moroka High School as the match ended in a 0-0 stalemate. The winner had to be decided on penalty shootouts which were won by Kuyakhanya by 1-0.

Kuyakhanya’s courageous performance was unfortunately not enough against the more experienced Clapham who easily brushed them aside with an 8-0 win to be crowned ultimate champions.
