Leading the fight for safety

Ensuring that women and children are protecting.

A community-based organisation Tlhokomelo Childcare and Drop in Centre recently held a march in commemoration of 16 days of Activism.

16 days of Activism is an annual campaign that opposes violence against women and children, it takes place from November 25 to December 10.

It was aimed at encouraging victims of rape and abuse not to be afraid to report the cases and break the silence.

According to the chairperson of the organisation Gideon Mpanza they are trying to say enough is enough and they are tired of people who take advantage of vulnerable people.

He added that they are people in the community who are still dying in silence because they are afraid what people might say about them. Mpanza alluded that it was also a warning sign to those who are still continuing with the inhumane acts to stop.

It was indeed an informative day for the community of Orlando East as the Centre had partnered with other NGO’s and stakeholders such as Jozi i Hlomile, Community Policing Forum, Police and Social Development.
