Katleho Mthenjane comes out top

"I shall continue to pay it forward and empower African girls to embrace themselves."

The Johannesburg Central District Sport, Youth, and Culture Award held an event at Pentarosa Primary School in Lenasia. The main purpose of the awards was to enhance education through sports, nurture the youths’ talents and maximise youth participation in sports.

Tlhatlogang Secondary School was nominated and won under the following categories Cultural Secondary School, Values in Education Ambassador Learner of the year, Secondary School of the year, Promotion of Social Cohesion Secondary Teacher of the year, and Secondary School Sports to name a few.

Katleho Mthenjane took all the first position in Cultural Secondary School, Values in Education Ambassador Learner of the year, and Secondary School of the year.

Mthenjane said, “It was a surprising moment to walk away with such awards because throughout the year I wanted to be an agent of change and to inspire black girls.”

She mentioned that to receive such massive awards shows that there’s someone watching and she shouldn’t give up on her dreams.

“I shall continue to pay it forward and empower African girls to embrace themselves.”

Puseletso Lefakane won the second position in Cultural Girl of the year.

Lefakane said, “I labeled my year 2018 as the year of greatness. I’m very honoured to have received this award and it really means so much to me. The journey has been filled with a lot of emotions and I have put in a lot of hard work and have given it my best throughout this year.

“I will also like to thank everyone that has been part of this journey. I’m an empire because of those that believed in me and I’m glad that I’m recognized.

Principal Khosi Ntuli said, “We enhance education through sports and youth engagement programs for us to improve results and gaining competitive advantage. We wouldn’t do this though without support from community sports facilities.”
