The 4Soweto Arts Foundation is a non-profit organisation (NPO) based in Meadowlands whose mandate is to help children who are passionate about art.

Founder Kholwani Mthethwa conceived the idea of starting an organisation which would nurture the creative drive within children, but he was hamstrung by a lack of financial resources. Undeterred, he pushed on and established the organisation which is growing daily.

Mthethwa said, “While it was completing my matric, I was inspired and motivated by a speech given by Lindokuhle Nkosi who said her love for the stage inspired her to pursue her dream of making art live again.”

“I approached Nkosi and told her about my idea which she loved we resolved to work together, starting with the company’s registration.”

The NPO is comprised of Lindokuhle Nkosi, Kholwani Mthetwa and Ntombikayise Mahambe who hope to bring the appreciation and love of art back to ekasi.

Mahambe said, “When Nkosi and Mthethwa started this, I fell in love with their idea because to me, art is a tradition which won’t die easily. Being creative in your craft and loving what you do is a legacy we want to pass on to the community.”

Mthethwa added, “4Soweto Arts Foundation also educates, promotes and explore different media within the art industry. We try to spread the word within the community for those who are capable and love art, let it be alive in our community.”

He added, “At first, 4Soweto Arts Foundation was a private company and we offered Saturday classes, but with the passing of time, we decide to change it to an NPO since it was hard to obtain sponsorship because the children were withdrawing because their as parents could no longer afford it,” Mthethwa added.

The group started Saturday classes where they teaching learners academic subjects and getting into the creative spaces where everyone is free to express their skills. They would also invite facilitators to teach the children more about art.
