It’s Christmas come early for these learners Margaret Gwele learners

"We appreciate the effort of raising and teaching our children. We pray that God continues blessing them as they make a difference in the lives of the pupils," said Moniwe Samela.

Learners from disadvantaged backgrounds at the Margaret Gwele Primary School in Dobsonville will have a perfect Christmas like their peers after they received groceries for the December holiday.

According to the school’s first deputy principal, Lulama Njokwana, the has been in existence for over 10 years at the school.

“We have identified 50 pupils who are needy as well as orphans who benefited from this initiative. The donors are from churches, parents and teachers.

“We know that the learners identified are dependent on the school for food. During the schools holidays most of them face days without food,” said Njokwana.

Grocery beneficiaries are excited about Margret Gwele Primary School initiative.

The school head guidance teacher Khathutshelo Khukhu said they hosted the event with the parents because of their love for the children.

She urged parents to make sure they cooked for the children from the grocery parcels which were donated.

Khukhu said their school has 1200 learners, but only 50 were chosen as grocery beneficiaries. The school’s second deputy principal, Sakhumzi Dikili said that in most cases, children from poor backgrounds perform very well academically.

“We urge parents to continue raising these children because tomorrow they will look after you when they are grown up. Do not give up in enrolling poor learners at our school so that they can also benefit from this initiative,” said Dikili.

Moniwe Samela, who is a parent to one of the learners at the school, and a recipient of the grocery parcel, said they appreciated the donation because it will go a long way in keeping the family fed during the Christmas holidays.

“We appreciate the effort of raising and teaching our children. We pray that God continues blessing them as they make a difference in the lives of the pupils,” said Samela.
