Hijacking leaves 10 passengers stranded

Fortunately, the remaining passengers were dropped off unhurt in Mofolo and no shots were fired during the hijacking.

Freddie Nalana who is employed as a taxi driver alleged that on November 18 at about 8.30pm, he picked up three men on Reverend Modise Drive in Zone Three.

While ferrying his passengers, he was stopped by Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department officers at the Meadowlands Post Office. The officers let him go after he produced his driver’s licence and professional driver’s permit.

Following this interaction with the law enforcement officials, the driver proceeded to the Ndofaya Mall. According to the police report, the driver alleged that one of the three men he had picked up earlier, indicated that he wanted to alight the taxi at the Baragwanath Taxi Rank.

The man recalled hearing the clicking sound of a firearm being cocked and jumping out of the vehicle after hearing the sound. The hijackers drove off with about 10 passengers, and the vehicle has been fitted with a tracking device.

Fortunately, the remaining passengers were dropped off unhurt in Mofolo and no shots were fired during the hijacking.

He was stopped by JMPD members at Meadowlands Post Office and asked for his licence and PDP when he produced it, he then proceeded to Ndofaya Mall and he picked up other passengers.
