Big is beautiful my size is a plus

Some plus size women feel diminished as certain people make a mockery of their bodies.

We all know women are beautiful and very confident in themselves and so too are plus size women. However, some plus size women feel diminished as certain people make a mockery of their bodies.

To help shed light on this matter is American supermodel and Curvy fashion expert Tricia Campbell, who is in the country to support the Ms Curvybody SA initiative to #NoToBodyShaming.

According to Campbell, “I saw their Ms Curvybody SA on Instagram and I immediately contacted them. I met the CEO via social media.

“Body shaming and bullying is real and on several occasions, I have been told or given bad names especially when I was growing up as a teenager,” she said.

The Jamaican born motivator and entrepreneur trailblazer joined the Ms Curvybody SA top 15 pageant finalists at the Asanka in Rivonia north of Joburg.

Campbell who has worked with Oprah Winfrey on different projects over the years said “it time for funders to spend money in motivating and uplifting people, especially curvy women who have always been left behind. If the doors for sponsorship are not opening, we will push and force them to open,” she said.

“It has taken so long to be recognised because the retail shops-owners thinks the plus size women do not deserve to look beautiful. If you walk in many shops, the plus size clothes are hidden at the back corner of the shop and most window displays smaller sizes clothing,” she said.

Ms Curvybody SA marketing director, Naniwe Maqetuka said it was a great honour for the international celebrity to motivate and train our top 15 finalists on how to pose and walk the runway.

Curvybody SA CEO Mapule Mphaki said Ms Curvybody SA has been taking a leading role in encouraging people to live a healthy lifestyle.

Curvybody SA CEO Mapule Mphaki, the current Ms Curvybody SA Nokuthula Thanda, the USA supermodel Tricia Campbell and Ms Curvybody SA marketing director Naniwe Maqetuka.

She said the organisation does not promote obesity rather a healthy lifestyle and that Curvybody SA is a company that focuses on beauty, wellness and health.

“The aim of Curvybody SA is to embrace all kinds of beauty and not just the physical appearance. Beauty comes from within and has no size.”

Campbell who has been on TV and has been featured on the pages of numerous publications across the globe has embraced and recognised the great work Ms Curvybody SA has been doing in the past two years in giving a platform to Curvybody women in South Africa and across Africa.

Her meeting with the Ms Curvybody SA top 15 finalists is to support the pageant and the #SayNoToBodyShamingAndBullying initiative.

Finalist Nomalungelo Ndimande (26) said she was privileged to be part of the top 15.

“It has been an interesting road to get here. I am very happy and looking forward to the finals,” she said.

Sandra Damata said Ms Curvybody SA has done a wonderful job to uplift young girls to love their bodies.
