DJ Master Soul ready to take on the music industry

Driven by a love of music.

According to local DJ, Shaun ‘DJ Master Soul’ Hobyani, William Shakespeare’s quote, ‘If music be the food of love, play on’ is what drove him to pursue a career in music, despite his mother’s protestations.

The Doornkop lad fell in love with music while he was still at school at the age of 16, but his mother reminded him that education comes first.

He said, “While I was still at school, he started mys career by playing music at local gigs, birthday celebrations, weddings and Day Jols.”

“I use to hide my CD pouch away from my strict mother while I was still at school. In 2017, I was pushing matric and my music gigs on the side.”

Hobyani said that music is inspired by African Dance Music and he liked mixing both Afro Dance Music and International Music.

“I’ve started a movement called Thursday Groove where I upload a mixtape every Thursday on my fan page and invite local DJs who want to advance their careers.

“On November 16 this year, I was selected to take part in a Battle of DJs at Jozi FM on their Club Explosion segment and I won the first round,” said DJ Master Soul.

The aspiring DJ has taught himself to use Fruitloops and has produced beautiful music using the application.

For those house music fanatics who want to follow him, they may do so on his Facebook page, MasterSoul RSA.
