UPDATE: Listen to constable Fezeka Khobo giving details about Eldos robbery
Suspects fled the scene with two getaway cars.
The Eldorado Park Post Office in Extension Five was robbed yesterday afternoon at about 1.30pm and an undisclosed amount of money was taken by five men traveling in two vehicles.
According to constable Fezeka Khobo, the communications officer at the Eldorado Park police station, the men were seen breaking into the post office and the police were notified immediately. The men fled towards Klipspruit West with police in hot pursuit.
“The suspects fled the scene in two getaway cars, the police gave chase and police caught up with them in Fuschia Road, Klipspruit West where a shooting ensued between the police and the fleeing robbers,” said Khobo.
One of the men was shot and killed in an exchange of gunfire between police and the criminals. Khobo said, “Four of the suspects were arrested, ” said Khobo.
Firearms were recovered on the scene and spent cartridges were scattered in the street.
The swift response from police resulted in the robbers’ plans being thwarted and Khobo said, “All stakeholders were on the scene, and a full investigation into the incident is still pending.”
