Chris Papiyana may just be the one who makes Riverlea known through his Gqom music. The twenty-six-year-old has not studied music but has the skill to mix beats together which attract many to his music.

“I just started at home and when people started listening to my songs, they started promoting it and that’s how I just kept it going.

“I only started focusing this year on it and on twitter if you search Chris Nyovest, you’ll see that even Cassper Nyovest, Khanyi Mbau, Dr Malinga, Distruction Boyz, they all know about me because of my link on twitter to my song,” said Papiyana.

The artist added that he has been performing with Team Mosha. Papiyana explained that he been working on his music since he was in high school but then came to a stage in his life when he just gave up because he didn’t see any progress. Papiyana started off with making beats and then started singing to them.

“Right now, I’m doing Gqom which is a crazy genre, I think it came out last year with the Distruction Boyz. It is instrumentals with me singing in the background. The genre is just about being funny, it doesn’t necessarily have to make sense” he added.

Papiyana would like the community to focus on the youth’s talents and also to assist with supporting each other so that creatives can grow. Papiyana has recently recorded his music video and hopes to release it next month, he also features in a song with a Mozambican artist which is also planned to be released next month.

The artist is also part of a group called ‘Team South’ and they have become a record label from Riverlea. If you are interested in knowing more about the artist, you can find him under “Chris Nyovest”.
