LISTEN: Seniors sustain themselves stitch by stitch

Apart from sewing, the members also do physical activities during midweek days to keep their members active and beat obesity.

Dobsonville senior citizens are no more eager to wait for their monthly social grant payouts to survive another day.

They took it upon themselves and launched the Reatsholetsana Organisation to empower themselves socially, physically and financially.

According to the organisation founder Miki Kotsedi (67), since their establishment in 2014, they have shown that they are instrumental in changing the lives of their members.

She said, “We are teaching sewing skills to our members so that they can sell their creations to the market.

“With these skills, they are now able to sew a variety of clothing items ranging from traditional dresses to bags and wallets. We also specialise in designing beadwork.”

The 10 member team operating until midweek, excluding Thursdays from 9 am until the afternoon.



They recently hosted their debut expo where their members sold a range of designs at the Thabang Soccer Grounds.

“On December 9, we will be hosting another expo at the same venue and we urge people to support us at our second expo,” said Kotsedi.
