Peace maker stabbed nine times

"We demand justice, and we appeal to the suspect to hand the murder weapon over to the police."

Giving birth to a child is the greatest fulfillment for any parent, but seeing your child being stabbed nine times and killed is the worst pain any parent could be expected to suffer.

Mumsy Nikane from Snake Park Block 3 experienced this tragic loss after her only son, Sihle Nikani was stabbed to death by a local resident.

She said, “A fight broke out between two local boys Sihle knew and grew up with here in Snake Park.

“He intervened to stop the fight, but little did he know that his efforts would lead to one of the knife-wielding boys stabbing fatally. My son lost his life on the spot and the attacker ran away.”

The Nikane family were relentless in their efforts to trace the attacker, who they finally found hiding out in Kagiso. The family contacted police who arrested him and he is due to appear in court to face murder charges.

“The matter now is in the hands of the courts as he is still to appear before the Roodepoort Magistrate Court soon. Justice must prevail because residents are not safe anymore. Police must be visible in our streets and continue to patrol in our township,” said Nikani.

The grieving mother complained that it took ages for police to report to the crime scene which gave the knife attacker ample opportunity to flee. The family mounted a search for him and were fortunate to track him down.

“As a family, seeing Sihle’s body with nine stab wounds, left us traumatised. My son was the only breadwinner in the family and my 95-year-old father has fallen ill soon after Sihle’s sudden death.

“We demand justice, and we appeal to the suspect to hand the murder weapon over to the police as it still has not been found,” said Nikini.
