Summer camp grooms the youth

JPA is a branch of the Dobsonville-based Lesego Tau Education Foundation (LTEF) and helps pupils with their school work by empowering them to be productive future adults.

The long-awaited summer leadership camp for the Junior Perception Agents (JPA) was recently held at the Abe Baile Nature Reserve in Carletonville.

JPA is a branch of the Dobsonville-based Lesego Tau Education Foundation (LTEF) and helps pupils with their school work by empowering them to be productive future adults.

According to the JPA founder Lesego Tau, the camp was informed of the concerning number of high school dropouts in the community.

Tau said, “The camp accommodated 50 JPAs from the Lesego Tau Education Foundation with the aim of taking them through a four-day life skills and study programme which tackled the following progressive features; understanding how to prioritise your education, studying methods, personal leadership, self management, understanding sexuality, spiritual well-being, nature preservation, good morals and values, managing peer pressure, understanding family values, goal setting and being resourceful as a young citizen.”

He said the core objective of the summer leadership camp was to capacitate all JPAs on the ‘train a trainer’ guide.

Tau said those that were not able to attend the camp would benefit from those who received the training.

“It is the foundation’s aim to have all JPAs impacting other young people at their respective schools and to make sure they lobby for all their school mates to graduate to the next grade.

“The foundation has been pledging its services to propel youth involvement in the community.

“JPA members who attended the camp were from the communities of Dobsonville, Braamfischerville, Snake Park, Slovoville, Mofolo and Meadowlands,”said Tau.

He said communities need to have deliberations on mentorship and building a legacy; everyone wants to harvest but not many are prepared to put in the extra work to mentor the youth to become true and fearless leaders in the community.

“We all want to live in a crime-free environment, yet so many of us always blame law enforcement officers and say that they are failing the community, while many are sitting idly by and not even showing any commitment to assisting anyone in the community.

“People have been working for years and earning very well, but they have not done anything to curb their community challenges with their earnings.

“Who do we expect to solve all life’s problems?” he asked.

“Before we claim a good environment, we should ask ourselves whether what we are contributing is creating a good environment,”said Tau.

He said young people are a figure of enthusiasm, and we need to make sure that they always keep occupied so that their energies could be channeled in a positive direction.

“The foundation is planning a graduation ceremony for all JPAs on December 8,” he added.

People interested in pledging their support for the JPA graduation ceremony are asked to email Ltef.foundation@gmail.com
