On November 3, Mrs Africa finalist, Natasha De Matos hosted a high tea with the sole purpose of celebrating women. Mothers, sisters and daughters came together at the Eldorado Park Stadium in Ext 9 to talk about issues that affect women.

De Matos said, “I have always wanted to host something like this, where our women are celebrated because I am a woman myself. I learned that women of all ages, sizes, races and religions are faced with similar issues. The goal here today is to create a sisterhood, I want women to know that they are not alone.”

There were four guest speakers who were present at the high tea, each of them addressed the women who attended and encouraged them to keep going, no matter what obstacles were present in their lives.

The first guest speaker, Hope Jourd, is a part of an organisation called Women Talk and she opened up to the women and spoke about her life story open and honestly.

“My mother and I weren’t always as close as we are now. Growing up wasn’t very easy for me, I grew up without a father, I was so angry with him for leaving, so I took it out on my mother. I had to learn how to deal with my issues and learn how to love me for me,” said Jourd.

“Everybody has a journey, what matters is that we realise our issues and deal with them because if we don’t, we will never truly be happy,” she added.

Pricilla Maart was one of the guest speakers.

The second speaker was Women Talk founder, Priscilla Maart, who spoke to the women about the importance of knowing who you are.

“We need to start having conversations with ourselves and stop trying so hard to fit in. It’s okay to be different. We need to learn how to deal with ourselves because if we don’t love ourselves if we don’t value ourselves and if we don’t know what we want, how can we expect those around us to know? ” she asked.

”It’s so easy to make excuses but it’s up to us to pull out the hurt,” she added.

She also touched on issues related to substance abuse. The host, Natasha De Matos said that she was pleased with how the event turned out and that the women left happy and well informed.
