VIDEO: CoJ hosts Open Day to discuss the POVERTY subject

Youth Open Day sheds the light.

The City of Johannesburg (CoJ) Open Day for the youth was meant to help the youth escape poverty and to ensure change, various organisations were invited at the Diepkloof Multipurpose Center to shed some light for the youth on how to get ahead as business owners and professionals.

Nomvula Dlame from CoJ exclaimed about how they hate seeing the youth unemployed and that they organise these kinds of workshops to help empower the youth.

Dlame said, “It saddens us to see our youth inactive and their dreams and hopes going drown the drain.”

Dipolelo Mashego motivated the youth and said that it was good for her to see that CoJ is still putting in the effort to help the youth.

Mashego said to the youth, “Let us be flexible in our thinking and explore all the business loopholes. I am really happy to hear that the National Youth Development Agency is still trying to help the people progress.”

Mashego said that the extra vacant office the youth wants doesn’t just start at the top, but it takes hard work and a lot of resilience.

Young people went to the multipurpose center in Diepkloof from different areas like Noluthando Hlatshwayo from Orlando who felt like more would be done to help the youth, especially the ones in the business.

Solly Monaheng from the CoJ explained that the companies they invite to the workshops and expos always give them statistics about how many people have been helped.

Monaheng said, “As the CoJ, we are the link between internal stakeholders and the external stakeholders which are the people.”

Keketso Rabotho from the Department of Labour answered the burning questions from the youth and the people who attended the Open Day and condemned corruption.

Rabotho said, “If your employer is an agency and they are dodgy towards you, you can go to the Department of Labour offices where it is their duty to ensure that they call your employer on your behalf for your details and if the employer refuses we will handle the matter on your behalf.”
