The Minnaar family from Green Village in Doornkop were left homeless after their house was attached by the sheriff of the court and their furniture thrown away.
According to Florenza Minnaar, who is the homeowner’s daughter, officials from the sheriff’s office broke the locked gate and forcibly gained entry to the home.
“They took us out from the house and removed our furniture. Their officials started with the vandalism of the house by breaking the windows, removing the doors and the roof tiles,” said Minnaar.
She said the house, in Green Village, Doornkop belongs to her parents who live on the property with Florenza and their three grandchildren.
Minnaar said they have a title deed to prove that the house belongs to them and questioned the validity of the eviction notice which dates back to 2015.
“The sheriff claims that somebody bought the house and we don’t even know who they bought the house from. We don’t even know where we are going to sleep tonight because the house has no roof. Our furniture has been broken and they left us without any alternative accommodation,” said Minnaar.
