A Re Sebetseng putting communities to work

At the end of every event, there is a draw where participants stand a chance to win tickets to the Global Citizen Festival which will be held on December 2 this year. Lucky participants stand a chance of winning one of 30 000 tickets to the event.

Eldorado Park residents and government officials came together to clean up the Eldorado Park Swimming Pool in Old Eldos for the A Re Sebetseng cleaning campaign on October 27.

Young and old put their shoulders to the wheel.

This was the second last event of the campaign which started with an aerobics session led by Promise ‘Pro’ Sibanyoni who said, “This campaign is good for the community because it will help keep the swimming pool clean and people are more likely to visit a clean swimming pool.” .

Region G regional director, Mickey Padiachey who oversees the 17 wards in the region which includes Eldorado Park, said he was happy about the level of interest shown by the community in the initiative. People came out in numbers to clean the swimming pool and even children were there to assist with the cleanup.

The campaign started with an aerobics session to loosen up the limbs.

According to Lefu Mokheseng, who is the inspector of the city of Johannesburg region G, the A Re Sebetseng campaign is there to help keep the community clean and educate residents about the hazards posed by illegal dumping.

Pikitup, JMPD, City Power, City Parks and the Johannesburg Roads Agency were there to assist the community during the campaign and to ensure that proceedings were safe and orderly. “I am here to see if everything is in order and to ensure that our participants are safe and that there is peace,” said officer Mxolisi Mzamana from region G.

The young children pitched in and did their bit.

“As community play areas are scarce, this helps children play in a clean and safe environment. Parents do not have to worry when their children come here,” officer Mzamana added.
