Top cop retires after 35 years stint in the SAPS

MEC Nkosi-Malobane commends Provincial Commissioner’s diligent work.

The Gauteng MEC for Community Safety, Sizakele Nkosi-Malobane, wishes the Gauteng South African Police Commissioner Service Commissioner, Deliwe De Lange, well in her future endeavor after 35 years stint in the service.

The Commissioner, this morning, announced her retirement from the police citing that she wants to focus on her family. Lieutenant General De Lange started as an instructor at the Hammanskraal SAPS Training College in 1984, in 1985 she became a Constable at Vosloorus Police Station then a Sergeant in 1990.

In 1993 she was promoted to a position of Inspector, in 1994 she became a Lieutenant-Captain, a Captain in 1997, Superintendent in 2000, Tsakane and Kempton Park Police Stations Commander in 2000 and 2004 respectively.

In the year 2009 she became Sebokeng Cluster Commander, Deputy Provincial Commissioner in 2015 and a Provincial Commissioner in 2016 to date.

“She served the police with honesty and diligence. She rose through the ranks, accumulated a lot of experience, effected a lot of positive change during her tenure as the Commissioner and I was still expecting a lot from her.

“She is a woman of high caliber and her retirement leaves a void within the service particularly on issues of women empowerment. She will be sorely missed,” said MEC Nkosi-Malobane.
