Seeing the world from a different view

We use drones to satisfy the need for you to record life from a different perspective. We can produce information that you can enjoy and learn from.

The sensation of flying a camera, being able to shoot aerial images from a completely new perspective while staying on the ground is their hobby, Kabelo Afrika and Kgolane Moruthane are most responsible for democratising aerial photography and making us aware of the beauty of Soweto and Surrounding areas from above.

After travelling to Qatar and speaking to officials about their plans for the future, Moruthane said that he discovered that drone technology would lead the creation of new business sectors, and decided to pursue the capabilities of the future when he landed back in South Africa.

His passion for data and Afrika’s following of electronics got them together to create a business that would show us a different world and that’s basically how the company, Flight Mode Production came about.

Moruthane looks after putting together the aerial solutions and marketing the brand.

With over 10years in the Information and Communication Technologies (ICT)/Telecoms space, he has helped businesses establish Customer Relationship Management (CRM) infrastructures and software platforms to streamline business efficiencies.

He is an avid Scrabble-player and enjoys watching sunsets.

Afrika is geeky about the technical aspects of the aviation space and business processes for drone operations and looks after media solutions and business platforms. Everything with a power button has endured scrutiny and been validated by this screwdriver.

Taking his time to be meticulous is a habit we should all learn to master from the perfectionist.“We exist to capture moments from the sky.

We use drones to satisfy the need for you to record life from a different perspective. We can produce information that you can enjoy and learn from.

This includes images, videos and data that can be used to make smart business decisions,” said Moruthane.

Flight Mode Production aims to create a network of pilots all over the world who will be able to support small-scale to large-scale clients through its partnerships with Property owners, Drone schools, Satellite companies and Hardware vendors and to be specialists putting together flexible on-demand local services.

Moruthane said that he saw the opportunity of making alternative incomes whilst he was stuck behind the office desk.

“I got fed up with making promises to clients that did not sit well with what I hoped for at the time. Faster service, affordable pricing, better understanding.

I knew the whole point of the services that we provided was based on trying to understand the end-consumer.

But, now I realise that understanding the environment, that we are consuming, is actually more important, because we, as consumers, are better adaptable to change,” Moruthane said.

“Our turning point came about when we decided to register as a formal business when we decided to follow the required legal framework for commercial drone operations in South Africa, according to the Civil Aviation Authority.

We wanted to leave the informal style we had and thought that following the correct procedure would empower us in the long-term in building a scalable business,” he added.

They recently entered the South African Breweries (SAB) KickStart Boost Programme, an initiative aimed at creating meaningful jobs in South Africa by growing sustainable youth-owned businesses.

“When I entered the SAB KickStart Boost programme, I knew that SAB had not yet implemented drones’ solutions for their crop farms. Using drones will help SAB to be able to have a closer aerial understanding of the crop landscapes and to better predict yields. I am still hopeful for that,” said Moruthane.
