WATCH: Mabunda brings his Limpopo dream to the City of Gold

The craftsman has no training in the field but everything just comes from inspiration and his God-given talent.

Nkhaviso Mabunda (24) originally from Limpopo but lives in Industria has an unfailing love for BMW cars and has the dream of him working for the company one day.

Mabunda explained that for now, he builds small car models until he gets an opportunity to be employed by BMW. He started creating his car models in last year around November.

When asked why he’d like to work specifically for BMW he said that his favourite cars are BMW and that is why he chooses to make BMW car models.

The craftsman has many cars that he has made but most of them are just made from cardboard boxes and some wire however when he created his BMW i8 model two months ago he decided to go the extra mile of adding foil right around the car, he added operating speakers in the boot of the car which has the ability to play loud music, the lights work at the back and front, he added lights for indicators and there is even a device that is installed in the car which allows you to call it.

Mabunda explained that the BMW i8 is the best model that he has made thus far and it is also the first to have electronics added to it. The car also has a memory card for the music and Bluetooth system for both music and phone calls inside of it.

“I took two months creating the car because I don’t have support financially to help me to create the cars that I want to. I do ‘piece jobs’ where I can so that I can buy the materials for my models,” explained Mabunda.

When asked if the car can move, Mabunda said that one day he’s going to make it move, the only issue he is having is to decrease the weight of the car as he explained that currently the car is very heavy and that is why it won’t move.

Mabunda also creates sculptures out of cement and back home in Limpopo he created a sculpture of himself. He is currently building a sculpture of Nelson Mandela.

The craftsman has no training in the field but everything just comes from inspiration and his God-given talent.

Mabunda said that he is not interested in selling the cars, he would just like BMW to see what he can do and is hopeful that one day they will give him the opportunity to build a real car for them.
