Art tackling social issues

Performance art group uses song and poetry to address society's deepest social issues.

Performance art group Art Twenty Four Academy held their monthly Unwind Sessions this afternoon at Protea Glen Hall in extension two.

Performers dazzled the audience.

The group performed a play depicting the struggles youth faced in apartheid schools and how they continue to struggle in post-apartheid South Africa with a myriad of issues such as unemployment, drug abuse and teenage pregnancy.

Depictions of social issues using performance art.

The group performs what they call edutainment. While their main aim is to entertain, it is also important for them to have educational content embedded in it according to founder of Art Twenty Four Academy, Mlami Maloi.

Another riveting performance.

Attendees were also graced with a performance by former Sarafina cast member, Zee Mabuse, who is now an afro-pop singer.
