Two men nabbed in Protea City for possession of unlicensed firearms

Suspects to appear next week in the Protea Magistrates Court on two charges of possession of unlicensed firearms and possession of ammunition.

Two men aged 32 and 35-years-old respectively were arrested for possession of two unlicensed firearms and possession of ammunition this afternoon on Impala road in Protea City, Soweto.

Police received a tip off to lookout for a white Toyota Corolla which was allegedly involved in shooting incident in Roodepoort.



The police spotted the vehicle on Impala road which had two male occupants. They stopped the vehicle and searched the suspects.

They found two unlicensed firearms (z88 and cz pistols). The z88 pistol had 16 rounds of ammunition and the cz pistol had 6 rounds of ammunition.



It is alleged that the suspects were involved in the murder of a taxi driver in Roodepoort. Investigation is underway to determine whether the suspects are linked with the murder.

The suspects will appear next week in the Protea Magistrates Court on two charges of possession of unlicensed firearms and possession of ammunition.
