Miss World SA shares her struggles and gives an inspiring speech about the significance of education

Miss World South Africa gives back to the community.

Mental illness is one of the major issues that most people are facing, However, some tend to ignore it and it results in very bad consequences.

On Tuesday, October 16, the prominent Miss World South Africa (SA) 2018 Thulisa Keyi, visited Emshukantambo Secondary School in Pimville to raise awareness about Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) since this month is a mental health awareness month. Keyi also motivated the learners about the significance of education and that is it a key to success.

Representatives from the Department of Education, Department of Health and a well-known non-profit organisation Mo-Afrika Ithlokomele were part of the event.



“I lost my father at a very tender age in a brutal murder. He was our breadwinner, losing him left us in socio-economic problems, grief, floundering and mourning but I took the courage to make it my responsibility of keeping my family afloat,” said Keyi.

Born in Mdantsane in East London, 26-year-old Keyi was crowned our Miss World South Africa for 2018. After completing her BComm Accounting at UCT, Thulisa moved to Fourways in Sandton to continue her journey towards becoming a chartered accountant.

As she emphasised the need to get education, Miss World SA donated books to Grade 12 learners and other resources to use in terms of academics.

“I am determined to create a positive change in our country, to be at the forefront of empowerment, to enforce economic participation to the youth and women. I plan to archive such things through education. My dream is to see our children having a luminous future,” said Keyi.

It is alleged that one of the learners from Emshukantambo Secondary School was stabbed by another learner and it has affected the learner emotionally and mentally, thus he needed professional help.

According to one of the teachers, Pule Hlahane the learner, who is in this case, the perpetrator, has been suspended from the school.
