Men walk the talk

Men are talking now.

Man Talk was launched at the Maart household in Eldorado Park on October 13. This initiative was founded by Priscilla Maart, who is also the founder of Women Talk which was launched earlier this year.

A group of men gathered at the Maart household to witness the launch of Man Talk, listen to what the speakers of the day had to say and to share their experiences as men.

According to Maart’s daughter, Hope Jourd, Man Talk is a family organisation and their aim is to help people in the community heal from whatever pain they are facing just like they have healed as a family.

The guests were welcomed by Maart, who handed the event over to the MC, Arial Haskins who is also his brother.  Four speakers, each with a different topic, addressed the attendees.

After the second speaker’s address, the men were separated into three groups to discuss a few issues which hits close to home for men in contemporary South African society.

“The groups are for men to talk about their personal issues because unlike women, it is not easy for men to just open up,” said Jourd.

A group session was held after two guest speakers addressed the men.

She added that the purpose of getting men talking is to make them realize that they are special and that God loves them. She added that man are expected to be superheroes, which is impossible to be one.

The other two speakers were Jerome Maart who spoke about emotional baggage and Quincy Jourd who spoke about Godly men.

“I just want to share my journey and the tools I use,” said Haskins, who was the last speaker at the event. In closing off the session, he asked the men to wash their feet before closing in prayer.
