Mbali Mbuyisa, our very own local beauty queen

'Do more and never settle for less' - Mbali.

Mbali Mbuyisa has always loved being in the beauty industry from a tender age and recollects how she would watch her sister braid other people’s hair.

The dynamic beautician owns her own salon which is something she dreamed of achieving from a young age. She has always loved beauty and would tell her friends that you needed to look your absolute best irrespective of where you were going.

She said, “I always dreamt of opening my own salon as I used to braid my own dolls and imitate what my sister was doing. That drive always pushed me to do more and never settle for less.”

She added, “After I lost my sister this year I was not in a good space, so my aunt realised that I was not well and asked what it was she could for me.That is when the idea of opening my own salon struck me.”

The road has not always been an easy one and Mbuyisa has certainly paid her dues in the industry. She remembers working at different salons from Bob cut to Exclusive Salons and doing house calls before deciding to open her own salon.

Beauty Spot is based in Meadowlands Zone 4 and Mbuyisa’s main aim is to accommodate people in the community and creating employment for the people in her neighbourhood.

The business specialises in dreadlocks, natural hair, braiding different styles and new trends and include manicures.

“What worries me is that as black people we are scared to support each other. People would rather go outside of their own areas than supporting local business people,” she added.

She launched her salon on September 30 of which on that day there were specials and also clients were invited and the community to view and get that experience.

Mkumbi Nobela the lady who has shown support to Mbali and still supports her dream of a salon.

“When Mbali approached me I had so much believed in her and what I would say to her is that never stop dreaming and if it wasn’t for your dedication this salon wouldn’t be this big this is the seed that I have planted for you but take care of it and keep it on and never feel discouraged,” said Nobela in tears.
