KwaMahlobo laLiga Festive Games has fans on the edge of their seats

The soccer showpiece has draw spectacular displays of footballing prowess from competitors over the years and is a firm fan favourite with football fanatics in Soweto.


The fast-approaching festive season has Meadowlands soccer fanatics on the edge of their seats as everyone is eager to see which team will be walking away with top honours at this year’s KwaMahlobo Games.

Considered the biggest sporting drawcard of the festive season, the tournament is a three-week spectacular which sees thousands of fans cramming the KwaMahlobo School grounds to witness the soccer showpiece.

Safa president Danny Jordaan, LaLiga Africa director, Antonio Barradas, Gauteng MEC for Sports & Recreation, Faith Mazibuko, Safa Johannesburg president, Phil Mogodi and several top officials from the Johannesburg mayoral office.

The South African Football Association (SAFA) president Dr Danny Jordaan, attended the finals of the annual KwaMahlobo Festive Games, which was contested between Izinja Ze Game and Protea AmaGents on January 6 last year. He was joined at the KwaMahlobo Games final by La Liga Africa director, Antonio Barradas, Gauteng MEC for sports and recreation, Faith Mazibuko, SAFA Johannesburg president, Phil Mogodi and several top officials from the Johannesburg mayoral office.

Soccer fans are eager to watch this year’s Kwamahlobo laLiga Games.

Last year’s winners walked away with a glittering trophy, gold medals and a R120 000 cheque.
The losing finalists received silver medals and a cheque of R50 000 each while the semi-finalists each earned R15 000.

This year will be more exciting than last year as Dlongolo is calling out teams to come and register for this year’s tournament which will be taking place from December 19 until January 19 at the Kwamahlobo School Grounds in Zone 10.

One of the organisers, Dlongolo Ntenjwa said, “Only 40 teams will be allowed to register, so if you guys feel that you deserve it, join us the launch which will take place on December 4 at Disoufeng Pub and team registrations teams will close on November 30.
