Keleabetswe Mahuma is the embodiment of beauty and brains

Keleabetswe Mahuma’s entrepreneurial drive and business savvy belie her tender years. She is a well-known businesswoman who saw a gap in the beauty industry and decided to take full advantage by filling the gap.
Mahuma knows that women are always busy and hardly find time to pamper themselves so her business appeals to women who find themselves caught up in the fast-paced modern world.
She said, “My love for computer science started in 2014 when I began studying mathematical science. Although I had fallen in love with creating apps, I had always been very business-oriented and loved the beauty industry.”

In 2016, she started a hair sales business, which she called Queening Hair because she believed every woman is a queen, which was great, but Mahuma wanted a business venture which would challenge her.
She continued, “I gradually started thinking how I could put together the love I have for business, especially with regards to the female beauty sector, and what I was studying and learning at school. That’s how Vanguard was born- it is an innovative app that I believe will change the industry.”
“I encountered so many financial challenges especially because I was funding the business myself with the money I made from Queening Hair and I also dipped into my savings,” she added.

Mahuma said that while she was still designing and creating the app, she thought it would be impossible as the entire process proved to be quite draining on her resources.
“Every single detail on the app was thought through and decided by me. I was super hands-on from the design to the beauticians who will be featured on it,” she said, Vanguard has also opened opportunities to the youth in the beauty industry as they do house calls and allow you to be pampered in your own space.
“Today, I am proud to say I’m a young, black business owner and I’m going to make my mark on both the digital and beauty industries with my Vanguard application because I believe in the motto, ‘making style personal’,” she continued.
Vanguard is an app that one can download and request a house call. You could even invite your friends over and have a ladies pampering session.
