Unemployed youth given a lifeline through Nouvelle Beaute’ programme

When it comes to waxing, threading, massages, facials and makeup, students at Nouvelle Beaute’ in Brixton have become professionals in the making.
Nouvelle Beaute’ is a beauty course programme which is held at the Brixton Recreational Centre twice a week for unemployed youth who are passionate about everything beauty related.
The current class is facilitated by Dr Anton van Niekerk, who is a registered Natural Health Practitioner (NHP), a BCom Industrial Psychology graduate and an internationally qualified beauty therapist. Students are in their second level in the course and covered both the theoretical and practical sides to all of the sections they completed thus far.

When it comes to where the students are from, we looking at areas such as Eldorado Park, Coronationville, Florida, Randfontein, and Riverlea. In a class a few weeks ago, van Niekerk taught the students about the galvanic treatment in facials.
According to a study guide which the students use, the galvanic treatment is an electrical treatment which can be applied to both the face and body. Therapeutic substances are introduced into the skin using a direct current to create specific effects on the skin.
There are two methods that the machine can be used and that is through a deep cleanse which remove skin blockages and excess oil, this is for oily or congested skin. The other method is to add a water-soluble substance into the skin for specific effects and this is for dry skin.

Each student had to have four clients which they gave six treatments to each for their practical assignments and they are just finishing off with that.
The effects of the galvanic current are that there is an increase in circulation, improvement in skin colour, it relaxes the skin as warmth is produced in the tissues and it removes waste products from your skin.
