Service delivery still a thorn in the side for Zone 7

People interested in joining the march should contact zonal chairperson Siphiwe Mbongo on 073 618 0583 or Lerato Bob on 081 288 9959.

The Dobsonville Zone 7 branch of the African National Congress (ANC) will be embarking on a march against high Eskom tariffs, premier David Makhura’s and mayor Masondo’s administration on October 5.

According to the branch’s head of communications, Lerato Bob, mayor Mashaba’s administration has cut the 6 000 free litres of water which was previously given for free by the previous ANC administration.

She said, “We will also raise our concern about the over 2000 Jozi@Work workers who lost their jobs after the DA took office in the City of Joburg. We will be raising our dissatisfaction about the budget which was dedicated to keeping Soweto clean, but is now being used to keep the more affluent suburbs clean while township dwellers are left to live in squalor.”

She said that on the same day they will be marching to the Eskom offices in Johannesburg about the high electricity billing system followed by a march to Makhura’s office to demand that the premier scrap the controversial e-tolling system.

“It is unfortunate that Makhura’s administration passed the draconian e-toll policy which disadvantaged the poor. Such policies leave the poor people facing even more hardships. We urge residents to take part in the march to give vent to their dissatisfaction,” said Bob.

According to Bob, there will be several pick-up points where buses will ferry march attendees within Zone 7 which; Slovo Hall, Doornkop Hall, Kopanong Hall, Braamfischerville Spar and Bapedi Hall from 6 am to Mary Fitzgerald Square in the Johannesburg CBD.

The march will start at 8 am to the offices indicated above. People interested in joining the march should contact zonal chairperson Siphiwe Mbongo on 073 618 0583 or Lerato Bob on 081 288 9959.
