Teamwork makes the dream work for our cops

Officials from the Eldorado Park SAPS celebrate their achievements.

The Soweto East Cluster (SEC) which is made up of five police stations which are based in Diepkloof, Kliptown, Eldorado Park, Meadowlands and Orlando, celebrated the exceptional work performed by police officers from all five police stations.

Captain Hitler Ngwenya of the Kliptown Police Station said that the SEC’s goal has always been to assure the safety of all residents in and around these policing precincts.

He said, “The award ceremony was aimed at acknowledging the excellent work done by the police.”

According to the Eldorado Park police communications officer, captain Phillemon Khorombi, the station which walked away with the most awards, was the Eldorado Park Police Station.

He said, “As a station and as a team, we work hard and strive to do our best. These awards speak for themselves.”

The station bagged nine awards in the following categories; Admin employee of the year, Vispol employee of the year, Detective employee of the year, Crime intelligence of the year, Vispol group of the year, Detective service of the year, best station of the year, sports star of the year and disabled person of the year.

“The station took home a number of runner-up awards as well. We almost made a clean sweep,” said Khorombi.

The SEC commander, major-general Patricia Rampota opened the ceremony and delivered a heartfelt speech in which she expressed her pride at the Cluster’s performance this year.

She said, “I am so proud to lead such a dedicated and hands-on team that practices positive teamwork and healthy team dynamics. This makes leading such a wonderful experience and I am honoured to have worked with the Soweto East Cluster SAPS. I wear this badge with honour and this uniform with pride” she said.

The deputy provincial commissioner of human resource management, major-general Basson also shared words of wisdom and appreciation at the ceremony.

She said, “I am standing here today, I was sitting where you are once. How this cluster has carried itself is the very tool that got me here. I want to let you know that the attitude of perseverance and consistency to deliver the service which you are expected to, is something which is vital towards climbing the ladder in the policing career.

“Mutual respect is what will bring all those involved upwards. Not competing against one another. Teamwork makes the dream work.”
