Three sought by Protea Glen police in connection with housing scam

After appearing at the Protea Magistrate Court, the accomplices went to ground and are now being sought by police

The Potea Glen police are looking for a 33-year-old woman in connection with two cases of fraud and theft under false pretenses.

Felicia Kgomotso Chabangu is wanted for selling a house which did not belong to her, according to Protea Glen police spokesperson, Sergeant Vincent Mashiteng. A 51-year-old man and his partner were looking to purchase a house when they came across an advert showing a house being sold by Felicia Homes on the internet.

They subsequently contacted Chabangu who they met with in July two years ago. The suspect and two other men known as Thabo Mahane (35) and David ‘Razor’ Makutoane (43) steered a presentation to the man and his wife. The suspects and complainants went to view the houses in Braamfischerville  and offered to buy one.

Thabo Mahane is wanted by police on charges relating to the fraudulent sale of a house in Braamfischerville.

The complainants then deposited a sum of R 170 000 into the Felicia Homes account. The complainants attempted to make contact with Chabangu after depositing the money, but were unable to reach her. They then went to the house in Braamfischerville where they found a 41-year-old man who revealed that he too had bought the house and deposited R 175 000 in Felicia Homes’ account.

Upon investigation, police found that the house belonged to someone who was deceased and Chabangu had sold a house which did not belong to her. A warrant of arrest was issued by the Protea Magistrates Court for Chabangu and her accomplices on January 19.

Her accomplices, Mahane and Makutoane, were arrested on March 1st and 2nd last year and Chabangu was traced and arrested on April 4, 2017, all the suspects appeared before the Protea Magistrates Court. They were granted bail and never returned to court.

All suspects are currently still at large and an investigation into their whereabouts is underway. Anyone with information is requested to contact the investigating officer, detective sergeant Stephen Selomo on 072 562 6652.
