Young learners are ready to walk a mile in their new shoes

The invitation is also extended to learners currently completing Grade 10.

It is always heartwarming seeing our youth taking charge in their communities to help others succeed. These are the young people who are willing to share their knowledge and pass it on to the youth so that they are able to make wise decisions as they grow.

Thobile Mashinini who lives in Meadowlands Zone 5 took it upon herself to enlighten and groom the upcoming generation and address the social ills being visited on the youth in the area.

Sizanani is an existing organisation which has been active within the community for years, but due to financial constraints, the organisation has had to close their doors.

Mashinini said that she has always been driven to making a positive impact in the community and she saw an opportunity to register Sizanani Community Projects as a non-profit organisation.

She said, “There is a high rate of teenage pregnancy in the country and many of these young mothers are struggling to look after their children while pursuing their studies.”

The organisation has also formed close partnerships with other organisations in Meadowlands well as the councillor in a recent campaign to distribute school shoes to a number of schools in the area.

They are based at Dzata Primary School and Mashinini said they keep a keen eye on the needs in the area to see where they can be of service.

“I am willing to serve my community and in the long run, we wish to open an aftercare centre for the children to take care of them while their parents are still at work,” said Mashinini.

Sizanani has partnered with iCollege which is offering unemployed youth scholarships to study further. Registrations will be opened at the Bapedi Hall in Meadowlands Zone 3 on September 14.

There are different courses on offer for prospective applicants between the ages of 18-26. Interested youth should bring along their original ID and a copy, proof of residence and their school results. The invitation is also extended to learners currently completing Grade 10.
